Look for More Black Press War Coverage
Originally posted 4/9/2003
DOHA, Qatar—Everyone on this side of Mars knows by now that daily briefings on the fighting in Iraq are conducted by U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Vincent Brooks, an African-American. The general, who also is deputy director of operations, is not the only African-American on the base. In fact, they hold positions at every level, from the general standing at the podium to the private placing the microphone in front of reporters as they ask questions.
George E. Curry, editor-in-chief of the NNPA News Service and BlackPressUSA.com, writes about these African-Americans and others as part of his war coverage this week. Pick up a copy of your local NNPA-member newspaper to read Curry’s dispatches from the Persian Gulf.
